Taming a dragon is one thing. Convincing it to actually cooperate with you is another.

Book of Dragons is leaning into that difference with a major behavior update that gives its creatures individual temperaments, memories, relationships, and senses. Rather than treating every tamed dragon as an obedient mount, the system makes trust and cooperation something players develop over time. The dragon you're working with matters, not simply which species you've managed to collect.

Flight is getting attention as well, with full 3D movement, new maneuvers, and a cinematic camera. The in-game book now provides riding instructions and information about individual dragons, while Terrible Terrors and Speed Stingers join the available creatures. For players who enjoy the idea of raising and riding dragons in Minecraft, the update brings more depth to both sides of that experience.

There are some important considerations before upgrading an existing world. The creator warns that dragons will be regenerated on first load alongside changes to Nightfury, Nadder, and Skrill genetics, so backing up your world is strongly recommended. The new flight and cinematic camera options also default to enabled and carry a motion-sickness warning, although both can be adjusted or disabled.

Modrinth's automatic dependency listings for the 1.4 builds are incomplete or point to the wrong Minecraft and loader version, so check the creator's requirements rather than relying on automatic selection.

We particularly like the emphasis on individual dragon behavior. Collecting creatures is entertaining enough, but having to learn how a particular dragon responds to you gives the relationship a little more meaning. And when that relationship eventually leads to taking flight together, there's a stronger sense that you've earned it.
