About this policy

This policy explains the information handled by Modding News Central (MNC) at moddingnewscentral.com, an independent publication covering video game mods and modding news. The site is operated under the publication name Modding News Central. It covers the site as it operates today and separately describes reader-account features that are planned but not available.

You can browse the publication, read stories, and follow games without registering. MNC reader accounts, Google reader sign-in, passwordless reader sign-in, account-backed synchronization, and reader-account deletion are not currently deployed.

Browser-based followed games

The games you follow are saved in this browser's local storage using MNC's game identifiers. These preferences personalize My Followed Games and remain until you change them or clear the site's browser data. Private browsing, blocked storage, or clearing site data can remove them. Guest selections do not automatically synchronize across browsers or devices.

The site sends selected game identifiers to its digest-preferences endpoint. While the digest is unavailable, that endpoint does not save them to a subscriber record. When the feature is enabled, a valid digest session allows changes to update that subscriber's stored digest preferences.

Optional Daily Digest email

The Daily Digest is temporarily unavailable. Email signup, verification, delivery, and subscription management are paused. You can still browse and follow games without an account.

The existing digest system is designed to handle your email address, selected game identifiers, verification and subscription status, creation and update times, and delivery records. Cloudflare D1 stores these records and hashed verification or management tokens. When delivery is enabled, Resend processes the recipient address, email content, and delivery information to send verification and digest messages.

When enabled, verifying a digest subscription creates a secure, HttpOnly digest-management cookie with a 30-day lifetime. This cookie lets the browser manage digest preferences; it is not a reader-account sign-in. Browsing or following games alone does not subscribe you to email.

When subscription management is available, pausing delivery retains the subscription record. Unsubscribing removes the subscriber and associated preference, token, and delivery records from MNC's active D1 database and clears the digest cookie in the browser used for that request. It does not clear this browser's guest follows or immediately erase records retained separately by email or hosting providers. Existing digest records may remain stored while the feature is unavailable; for privacy or deletion requests, contact contact@moddingnewscentral.com.

Hosting and third-party sources

MNC is hosted through OpenAI's Sites platform on Cloudflare infrastructure. Hosting and security services process technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, timestamps, and errors, to serve the site and support its operation.

Stories link to original project sources, stores, repositories, and community sites. Some media may load from third-party servers. Following a link or loading externally hosted media allows that provider to receive request information and apply its own privacy practices. MNC does not control those services or their cookies.

Optional analytics

Modding News Central uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how readers use public MNC pages and features. Google Analytics is optional and does not load unless you select “Accept analytics.”

If you accept, MNC may send page views and limited interaction events covering site search, search-result selections, game follows and unfollows, and clicks on an article's original-source link. These events use public catalog identifiers and general page information. MNC does not send email addresses, digest tokens, complete external source URLs, followed-game lists, or other information intended to identify you.

MNC removes URL query strings and fragments from analytics page locations and does not enable analytics on digest verification, preference, or unsubscribe routes. Unmatched text entered into search is not sent to Google.

Google Analytics may set first-party cookies, including cookies beginning with _ga, after consent. MNC disables Google Signals and advertising-personalization signals for this implementation.

You may decline analytics without affecting site access, search, followed games, or digest functionality. You may change your choice at any time using “Analytics preferences” in the site footer. Withdrawing consent stops future MNC analytics collection and removes accessible MNC Google Analytics cookies from the current browser. Information previously received by Google remains subject to MNC's configured retention period and Google's applicable terms.

MNC stores your analytics preference in your browser so the site can remember your choice. This preference is not used for advertising or audience profiling.

Data retention

MNC has selected a 14-month retention period for GA4 event-level and user-level data governed by Google's retention controls. This setting does not necessarily apply to all aggregated reporting or data retained under Google's separate policies.

Google's privacy information is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Planned reader accounts: not yet available

MNC plans optional accounts using Better Auth on its existing infrastructure, Google OAuth, Resend passwordless email links, and Cloudflare D1. This section describes the proposed system, not features you can use today. Reader sign-in would be independent of ChatGPT, and MNC would not collect a Google password or create its own password system.

The planned system would handle an account identifier, email address, relevant Google identity information when Google is chosen, account and session records, and followed-game identifiers. Necessary session cookies would support sign-in, while D1 would store account information and preferences for restoration across devices. Resend would send requested email sign-in links. Creating an account would not automatically subscribe a reader to a digest or marketing list.

Readers would choose whether to add browser follows to their account. The proposed migration would merge selections without duplicates, preserve existing account follows, and retain local selections until the merge succeeds.

The planned deletion control would remove the MNC identity, associated sessions, and account-backed follows from active storage. It would not delete a Google account, clear guest browser preferences, or manage a separate digest subscription. Exact retention, backup handling, eligibility rules, and deletion procedures will be disclosed before reader registration opens.

Retention, choices, and requests

Browser preferences remain under your browser's storage controls. Digest records remain in active storage until unsubscribed; the current application does not automatically purge expired token or delivery history while a subscriber record remains. Hosting logs, email-provider records, and backups have separate retention practices, so removing active site records does not promise immediate removal from every provider system.

Privacy rights may vary by where you live. MNC does not currently provide a reader-account data dashboard or reader-account deletion control. For privacy questions or access, correction, or deletion requests, contact Modding News Central at contact@moddingnewscentral.com.

Provider information is available in OpenAI's Privacy Policy, Cloudflare's Privacy Policy, Resend's Privacy Policy, and Google's Privacy Policy. Google reader authentication is planned, not active on MNC.

Policy changes

MNC will revise this policy when its practices change and identify the updated date above. New account features will require an updated disclosure before they become available. See the Terms of Service for information about using the publication.
