Night City is already a dangerous place to make a living. Between the gangs, corrupt corporations, and people who seem to consider gunfire a perfectly reasonable way to settle an argument, V has enough problems without bringing seven friends into the mix.

Well, now that's an option.

NightCoop, a multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077 from Twenfys, has entered public beta, allowing players to join a host's game as their own versions of V. The mod supports up to eight players, with shared cutscenes, majority-vote dialogue decisions, and optional PvP controlled by the host. That last feature could make for some rather questionable friendships, especially when everybody has a different opinion about how a conversation should end.

We're especially curious about the dialogue voting. Cyberpunk's conversations can carry some pretty significant consequences, and handing those decisions over to a group of friends changes the dynamic considerably. Suddenly, V isn't just dealing with Johnny Silverhand arguing inside their head. They've got an entire group of people weighing in on what they should say next. Poor bastard.

There are some important limitations, though. This is an early public beta, with most testing focused on Act 1 and side quests, and the developers have primarily tested with two or three players. Eight-player support doesn't mean you should expect a trouble-free campaign from beginning to end.

Still, being able to bring friends into Night City for something beyond simply showing off screenshots is a welcome development. Cyberpunk 2077 has always had a world worth getting lost in, and NightCoop is giving players a chance to get lost in it together.
