For years, PC players have been transforming Cyberpunk 2077 with mods. New clothes, cars, weapons, complete visual overhauls, and countless quality-of-life improvements. Console players? They've been stuck watching the fun from the sidelines.

Well, CD PROJEKT RED is finally opening that door.

In an October 21 announcement, the studio revealed an in-game mod browser powered by mod.io that will bring a curated selection of mods to PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The rollout is scheduled for October 22 on Steam, GOG, Epic, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version following in the days afterward.

This is a pretty big moment for a game whose modding scene has spent the last six years finding new ways to reinvent it. There are a couple of catches, though. This isn't the entire PC mod library suddenly being ported over and made available on consoles. The initial selection will be limited, with more mods and content planned over time. Another thing to keep in mind: if you're playing on console, modded saves won't earn achievements or trophies. Personally, I'd gladly make that trade to play a modded Cyberpunk 2077 on my PS5 Pro.

Getting officially supported mods into the hands of console players is a truly welcome development. Night City is already a strange place. Giving more people the keys to mess around with it will only make things even more interesting.
