Geralt has saved plenty of villages, but let's be fair, he's probably helped himself to a few things along the way, too. Wander into somebody's house, rummage through their belongings, pocket anything worth selling, and carry on with your day. Nobody seems particularly bothered. Well, the people of the Northern Kingdoms have apparently had enough of that nonsense.

Notoriety Six, created by mumuyu211700, introduces a six-level crime and bounty system to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, giving Geralt's less-than-honorable behavior consequences that can follow him around the Continent. Get caught stealing, draw your sword where you shouldn't, or cause trouble in a settlement, and the locals may remember you for reasons that have nothing to do with your monster-hunting skills. Different regions have their own responses, too, so getting into trouble in Skellige isn't necessarily the same as making yourself unpopular in Nilfgaardian territory. Word can spread through mounted informants, villagers may recognize you, and eventually, bounty hunters might decide you're worth tracking down.

And getting yourself out of trouble isn't always as simple as paying a fine. Smaller bounties can be settled through designated characters, but reach notoriety level four and Geralt will need to spend a full accumulated day meditating at Kaer Morhen to clear his name. We rather like that detail. After everything the White Wolf has been through, there's something amusing about having to retreat to his old witcher stronghold because he couldn't keep his hands off somebody else's belongings.

The mod is currently in public beta, and there's one catch worth mentioning before you start planning your next life of crime: it requires a new playthrough, along with both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. That's a considerable commitment if you're already halfway through the game. But if another journey across the Continent is on your calendar, having the locals actually remember your misbehavior could make those familiar towns and villages a little more interesting to visit.
