Roach, we love you. We really do. But there's a rather large, feathered competitor waiting in the stables, and it can fly. Jolamods' Flying Mounts - Ride a Cockatrice gives Geralt a decidedly unconventional way to travel through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, allowing him to summon a saddled Cockatrice with a whistle, climb aboard, and take off across the countryside. The creature has an animated arrival, supports ground travel and flight, and comes with controls for climbing, descending, landing, and adjusting speed. No special quest is required to unlock it, either. Install the mod, find somewhere suitable, and prepare to make the local villagers question what sort of Witcher they've hired.

There are a few sensible restrictions. The current release targets the next-generation version of The Witcher 3, with Jolamods reporting tests on GOG rather than independently confirming every storefront and game build. Mounted combat isn't supported, collision handling is approximate, and players are advised to land and dismount before saving or exiting. The included Flying Mounts core also needs to stay in place if you're using other compatible creatures from the same system. As practical transportation goes, a Cockatrice might raise a few eyebrows, but it's difficult to argue with the scenery when you're enjoying it from several hundred feet above the road.
