Two hundred years after the bombs fell, the Commonwealth's industrial machinery probably shouldn't look like somebody polished it last Tuesday. DreadEye2020's Metallurgy pt.3 continues a visual overhaul of Fallout 4's metal surfaces, concentrating on catwalks, beams, pipes, metal rooms, and other pieces of the wasteland's industrial scenery. Rust becomes darker and less aggressively red, while metal surfaces lose some of their shine. The aim is to preserve Fallout 4's familiar appearance while making its battered structures look a little more convincingly battered.

Both higher-resolution and lighter texture packages are available, and DreadEye2020 recommends combining the release with the earlier Metallurgy packs. That's worth remembering when looking through the project gallery, since those screenshots show multiple parts of the series together with custom lighting adjustments. Part 3 isn't responsible for every visual improvement on display. Still, the attention to surfaces most players walk past without a second thought is precisely how a familiar game world can begin to feel fresh again.
