Twenty-four years after Morrowind first opened the gates to Vvardenfell, there's still something special about stumbling across a place you've never seen before. A strange ruin tucked into the wilderness, a local rumor that doesn't quite add up, or some forgotten piece of Tamriel's history that makes you wonder what else Bethesda left buried in those old lore books.

Just northeast of Balmora, modder SeamusThatsTheDog has added a little mystery of their own with The Brotherhood of Sethiete. The mod introduces the burnt remains of an ancient temple, along with rumors, a new character to speak with, and a short quest that doesn't announce itself with a big marker telling you exactly where to go. You'll have to do a little investigating the old-fashioned way.

The inspiration reaches all the way back to The Elder Scrolls: Arena and the Brotherhood of Seth, a group associated with some of the series' earliest lore surrounding Jagar Tharn. There's an interesting wrinkle to that history, too. The creator acknowledges that the in-universe account inspiring the mod might not be entirely reliable. In Tamriel, even the history books can be full of shit, which makes building a mystery around one particularly fitting.

There is one thing worth knowing if you've already expanded the area around Balmora. The new ruins overlap with a location used by the Balmora Outskirts mod, and the creator is considering ways to address that conflict.

We like the restraint here. Morrowind doesn't need another enormous questline to make exploring worthwhile. Sometimes a ruined temple, a suspicious bit of history, and the freedom to figure things out for yourself are plenty.
