Have you ever wondered what Fallout 4 would look like if it played more like the original Fallout games? Well, modder MrRedArmy is taking that idea in a pretty ambitious direction with the release of The Overseer’s Table, a new overhaul that trades Bethesda's familiar first-person action for an overhead, party-based RPG experience.

Instead of running around the Commonwealth shooting everything in sight yourself, you'll be looking down on the action through a tactical camera from a top-down perspective, clicking to move, and commanding companions during combat. The mod also introduces initiative-based encounters, shared action points, and a 2d20 system that uses character attributes and skills to determine outcomes. There's even a more traditional RPG conversation interface, complete with skill checks. It's a pretty fascinating change of pace for a game that normally puts you right smack in the middle of the chaos and gunfire.

The public beta arrived on October 20th, and as stated, there's still plenty of work ahead. The creator acknowledges existing bugs, so don't expect everything to run flawlessly just yet. But the concept is awesome, especially for longtime Fallout fans who miss the days of their tactical, party-driven approach of the earlier games. We've seen plenty of mods expand Fallout 4's world, but this one wants to change how you experience it. We're excited about it.
