Stardew Valley's Valley Mysteries Turns Pelican Town Into a Small-Town Detective Story

You've spent years getting to know the residents of Pelican Town. You know where Pierre spends his afternoons, when Abigail likes to wander off, and which villagers are probably hanging around the Stardrop Saloon after dark. Usually, all that knowledge comes in handy when you're trying to deliver a birthday present or track somebody down for a quest.
But what if you suddenly needed to know where someone was at 8 PM because they were a suspect in a crime? That's the premise behind Valley Mysteries, a new mod from mariachaaan that brings detective work to Stardew Valley. Instead of simply going about your daily farming routine, you'll find yourself investigating suspicious incidents, questioning villagers, checking alibis, and piecing together evidence in a casebook.
And here's what makes it particularly interesting: the investigations actually take the villagers' daily schedules into account.
That means the same routines you've gradually memorized while playing Stardew Valley suddenly become potential evidence. Somebody claims they were somewhere at a particular time? Well, maybe you know better. Once you've gathered enough clues, you can confront your suspect and decide whether to bring the matter to Mayor Lewis or keep the whole thing quiet. We're not sure how we'd feel about turning our neighbors in to the mayor, especially after spending the last several years giving them birthday presents, but apparently that's a decision we'll have to make.
The mod introduces new mysteries regularly, giving players yet another activity to fit in between tending crops, fishing, and maintaining relationships around town. There are some multiplayer limitations: the host keeps the casebook, and farmhands can’t open it yet.
What we really like is how naturally the idea fits Stardew Valley. Pelican Town has always been a place full of personalities, secrets, and complicated relationships. Valley Mysteries simply aims to give us a reason to start paying closer attention to what everybody's been up to.
