Pelican Town has always been a pretty friendly place. You can spend your mornings tending crops, your afternoons fishing, and your evenings hanging around the Stardrop Saloon getting to know the locals. Give somebody enough birthday presents and they'll practically adore you. But for all the personality Stardew Valley's residents have, their lives tend to revolve around routines that eventually become pretty easy to predict.

Well, apparently, the townspeople are getting tired of waiting around for the farmer to show up.

**The Living Valley**, created by mariachaaan, has introduced scheduled meetups that let players arrange plans with villagers, who remember what happened afterward. Show up, miss the appointment, or cancel altogether, and the experience becomes part of their memory. Suddenly, agreeing to meet someone isn't just another interaction you can forget about while you're busy harvesting blueberries. Your social calendar might actually require a little attention.

The October 23 update also gives Pelican Town's newspaper a more sensible relationship with the truth. The system distinguishes known events from unconfirmed rumors. And on quieter days, when nobody's doing anything particularly newsworthy, the paper can fill the space with forecasts or almanac notes. Apparently, even Pelican Town's journalists have slow news days.

There's also new support for other mods to use the meetup system, including Chirp Valley, opening the door for more social interactions beyond The Living Valley itself.

We like the direction this is taking. Stardew Valley has always made it easy to get attached to its residents, but giving them memories of the plans you made together adds a little more weight to those relationships. Just don't be surprised if somebody remembers that you stood them up because you got distracted by a particularly good day of fishing.
