Skyrim's Death Marks won't let you forget where you fell

Reloading an old save usually lets a Skyrim adventurer pretend a disastrous fight never happened. Death Marks refuses to forget. Every death permanently reduces health, magicka, stamina or carrying capacity, with the penalties recorded outside the game's normal save files. Eventually, enough losses can lead to permadeath.
That makes every retreat and reckless charge more consequential, but there's an unusual catch. The external death record uses the character's name, so two separately created characters with the same name share their penalties. Anyone planning multiple runs should understand that rule before turning Skyrim into a much less forgiving adventure.
