Half-Life's Xenian Outcasts Puts an Ordinary Black Mesa Researcher in a Very Unfortunate Situation

Working for Black Mesa probably came with some decent benefits. Cutting-edge scientific research, access to technology nobody else had, and the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the world. Of course, there was also the occasional risk of being teleported into an alien dimension and never seeing your family again. You win some, you lose some.
For Walter Abe Jameson, the unfortunate protagonist of Xenian Outcasts, that last part becomes a very real problem.
Created by Rayce_Raves, this new Half-Life story mod follows Walter, a researcher stationed at Black Mesa's Research Outpost 212 on Xen. When his journey home goes wrong and communications with Black Mesa are lost, he finds himself stranded in a place that was never particularly welcoming to human visitors.
What we like about the premise is that Walter isn't Gordon Freeman. He's one of the people who actually worked at those remote research facilities, presumably trying to do his job while surrounded by floating islands, bizarre creatures, and enough alien weirdness to make an ordinary workday feel like a survival exercise. There's an entire side of Black Mesa's operations that the original game only briefly explored, and Xenian Outcasts is interested in what life might have been like for the people stationed there.
The first playable demo is available now, offering an early taste of Walter's predicament while the rest of the campaign continues development.
Gordon Freeman eventually found his way out of Xen. Walter, unfortunately, hasn't been quite so lucky.
