Fallout: New Vegas Gets a Modern UI Makeover With zUI

Fallout: New Vegas is one of those games that's incredibly easy to get lost in, even all these years later. Between the characters, the choices, and the sheer amount of trouble you can get yourself into, there's always another reason to head back into the Mojave. The menus, though? Those haven't aged quite as gracefully. Finding one particular weapon buried beneath a mountain of junk in the Pip-Boy can still feel like a quest of its own.
Modder zeljoke has released zUI, an interface overhaul that brings three pieces of work together. Modern Menus handles inventory management, trading, crafting, repairs, leveling up, and the Pip-Boy, giving those screens a cleaner appearance with animated menus. Modern Dialogue Interface redesigns conversations, drawing inspiration from The Outer Worlds 2 and adding character titles that change depending on who's speaking. It's a welcome improvement for a game where talking your way through trouble is practically a second profession.
The third component, Modern HUD, makes its debut as part of zUI. It updates the health display, introduces enemy health bars inspired by Borderlands, repositions quest objectives, and gives V.A.T.S. a fresh appearance. Various interface elements can be customized, too, so players aren't locked into one particular layout.
There's some housekeeping involved if you're already using UI mods. zUI builds on Vanilla UI Plus, and the creator's older standalone menu mods need to be removed before installing it. Other mods replacing the same interface files may also conflict.
New Vegas doesn't need its personality modernized. The writing, characters, and all those wonderfully questionable decisions are why people keep coming back. Its menus, on the other hand, could use some attention, and zUI gives them a comprehensive overhaul without changing the adventure underneath.
