Red Dead Redemption 2’s enRAGE gives strangers long memories and dangerous grudges

Arthur Morgan has done plenty of questionable things across the American frontier, but what if the people on the receiving end actually remembered him? Nicklovin99’s enRAGE sets out to make Red Dead Redemption 2’s world considerably less forgiving by giving encountered NPCs persistent identities, personalities, relationships, and memories. Rob somebody, insult them, steal their horse, or hurt someone they care about, and that history can follow you into future encounters. Strangers may recognize Arthur, carry grudges, or return with the same name and appearance, while masks can help conceal his identity when nobody sees his face. Suddenly, being an outlaw comes with a rather inconvenient social life.
And the ambition doesn’t stop with individual encounters. enRAGE also simulates factions with leadership, territory, supplies, raids, and rivalries, while rumors, regional newspapers, and personal reputations reflect what’s happening around the player. Nemeses can survive fights with lasting injuries, and relatives or associates may respond to deaths. It’s an enormous collection of interconnected ideas for an early-access release, and nicklovin99 acknowledges that the possible combinations make exhaustive testing difficult. The project is intended for PC Story Mode, not Red Dead Online. If these systems develop as described, enRAGE could make the frontier feel like a place where your actions leave a mark long after you’ve ridden away.
