The Zone is dangerous enough when you're walking through it. Taking a boat out onto its waterways seems like an excellent way to discover entirely new things to worry about. Stantravels' Aqua Exitus already introduces three drivable boats to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, complete with boarding animations, engine sounds, and the ability to stand aboard and use equipment while traveling. The new 1.1.1 update concentrates on making that experience feel better, adding a smoother rise of the boat's bow under full acceleration and more balanced engine audio. Normal and Quiet sound presets are now available, which is a welcome option when you'd rather listen to the eerie wilderness than your own outboard motor.

There's also a more interesting exploration change. Players can now disable the mod-created boundary radiation zones that restrict access toward the outskirts of the map. That doesn't eliminate radiation throughout S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, but it does create more room for aquatic wandering. The boats still use simplified movement rather than full buoyancy simulation, and minor animation quirks remain. Stantravels also notes that the mod disables in-game achievements, a meaningful consideration before setting sail. For an experience usually defined by boots on the ground, Aqua Exitus offers a rather different perspective on the Zone.
