Resident Evil 2 (2019) gets a couch co-op partner

HUNK’y Friend turns Resident Evil 2 (2019) into shared-screen couch co-op, putting a second player beside Leon or Claire to fight, heal, reload and collect items. Shopcreeper01 launched it on October 4 and has continued expanding it on October 5, including support for alphaZomega’s fixed-camera mod. There’s also a commandable AI partner for solo play. In the main shared-screen mode, the partner’s gunfire follows player one’s crosshair; invulnerability and infinite ammo are on by default.
This is still an experimental way through the campaign. The creator tells players to remove the partner before typewriter saves or loading a new level, and says testing was on Leon’s campaign. The current Steam ray-tracing branch is the tested version; non-RT support isn’t confirmed. Player two needs a controller, while player one can use keyboard and mouse. Don’t confuse the main shared-screen mode with the separate, very experimental split-screen option, whose performance the creator warns is poor.
UPDATE | OCTOBER 13, 2026
The project, now presented as Local Couch Co-op, has reached version 15. Its expanded options include additional playable partner characters, split-screen play with a separate inventory, and a commandable AI companion. The earlier account reflects the mod’s initial experimental stage; consult the latest requirements and controls for the current build.
