Twenty minutes. That's all you've got to survive in 20 Minutes Till DOOM. Of course, when you're surrounded by escalating waves of demons, twenty minutes can feel like an awfully long time.

Inspired by 20 Minutes Till Dawn, this DOOM II survival mod from DaP00n and KneeteDerVogel challenges players to endure escalating enemy attacks on Ultra-Violence difficulty. Its latest update introduces two additional arenas, Hurtyard and DawnTown, joining the existing Plain Pain map and giving players more places to test their survival skills.

The bigger addition for anyone who enjoys experimenting is RanDOOMizer, which lets players adjust enemy selection and spawn pacing. You can stick with the standard challenge or change the rules to create a different kind of encounter. Non-default runs receive separate score tables, so customized attempts don't interfere with the regular rankings. Previous settings can also be replayed, making it easier to revisit a particularly entertaining combination or chase a better score.

We like the idea of having that much control over the punishment. DOOM has always been at its best when the action keeps you moving, and being able to experiment with different enemy combinations gives this survival challenge plenty of room for replayability.

You'll need your own DOOM II game data, since the mod isn't a standalone release. Beyond that, the premise is simple enough: pick your arena, decide how much trouble you want, and see whether you can make it through twenty minutes.
