The wait is over for Abiotic Factor players who've been itching to start tinkering with the game. Deep Field Games has released Community Update #5, bringing official mod support to the facility and giving players a much easier way to discover what other people are creating.

The update introduces an in-game mod browser powered by mod.io, allowing players to find and manage mods directly through the game. There's also a separate official Mod Editor, available for free through the Epic Games Launcher, giving aspiring creators the tools to start building their own additions. For a game built around exploring, experimenting, and surviving together, opening things up to the modding community feels like a pretty natural next step.

Multiplayer gets some welcome consideration, too. Gameplay mods can be enabled for individual saved worlds, and joining a modded server presents the required mod list before downloading anything. That should make it easier for groups to keep their adventures organized without everybody having to figure out which files they're missing.

There is one fairly significant catch. The developers expect nearly all older unofficial mods to break with this update, and those projects won't automatically become part of the new management system. It's an unfortunate disruption for players already running customized games, but official tools and integrated mod support give Abiotic Factor a foundation for whatever its community decides to build next.
