Abiotic Factor has already given players plenty of opportunities to turn workplace survival into something wonderfully chaotic. Now Deep Field Games is getting closer to handing modders the tools to make that chaos their own. The studio's new Year 2 roadmap places official modding support in the upcoming Community Update #5, including a Windows-based Mod Editor for creating items, NPCs, weapons, and other custom content. An in-game browser is also planned, giving players a more direct way to discover and install community creations. The roadmap places this update ahead of the Winter Update and Entropic Break, although no exact release date has been announced.
Official mod support was first discussed in September, so this isn't a surprise announcement that modding suddenly exists. What's new is a clearer picture of when these tools fit into Abiotic Factor's plans. Deep Field Games expects some existing unofficial mods to break when the underlying systems change, and the initial editor won't support entirely new levels or portal worlds. Even with those boundaries, a dedicated editor and integrated discovery system could make an already creative community considerably more accessible.
