Frequently Asked Questions
A little more about Modding News Central, what we cover, and how things work around here.
Whether you're looking for the latest modding news, wondering how we choose our stories, or working on a project you'd like us to know about, we've put together some answers to the questions you might have.
About Modding News Central
What is Modding News Central?
Modding News Central (MNC) is an independent gaming news publication dedicated to covering the people, projects, and communities that make video game modding possible.
Our goal is to cover as much of the modding world as we can, from major releases, total conversions, and ambitious overhauls to smaller gameplay additions, quality-of-life improvements, tools, updates, and everything in between.
We also believe modding history deserves attention. Some of the most remarkable projects were released years ago, while others continue evolving long after their original games have left the spotlight.
We want to help players discover what's happening now, rediscover what's worth remembering, and give the creators behind these projects as much exposure and recognition as possible.
What games do you cover?
We're not tied to one game, franchise, generation, or platform.
You'll find coverage of major modding communities surrounding games like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Cyberpunk 2077, alongside smaller games, cult classics, and titles that haven't been in the spotlight for years.
Some games continue attracting modders decades after their original release. Others have smaller communities quietly creating new content, restoring forgotten features, or keeping beloved games playable long after official support has ended.
New games, old games, large communities, and small ones. If something worthwhile is happening, we're interested.
Do you cover older games and mods that aren't new anymore?
Absolutely. In fact, this is an important part of what we want MNC to be.
Modding has a remarkable history, filled with projects that transformed games, inspired other creators, or gave players entirely new experiences. Plenty of those projects have faded from the spotlight over time, even though they're still worth discovering.
That might mean revisiting a legendary total conversion, highlighting an overlooked mod from years ago, exploring a community that's still supporting an older game, or introducing newer players to something they never had the chance to experience.
Not everything worth talking about was released yesterday.
Do you only cover major mods and popular projects?
Not at all. One of the reasons MNC exists is to give smaller projects and lesser-known creators more opportunities to be discovered.
We appreciate a massive overhaul or an ambitious total conversion as much as anyone, but modding extends far beyond the projects that dominate download charts.
A simple bug fix, a new weapon, a useful tool, a gameplay tweak, or a small addition that makes someone's favorite game a little better can be just as worthy of attention.
We want to cast the widest net we reasonably can and help people discover the creators making games better, stranger, and more interesting.
How often is MNC updated?
We're continually following developments across the modding community and publishing stories as they're ready.
Some days bring major announcements and long-awaited releases. Others are filled with smaller updates, useful tools, and interesting discoveries.
Rather than promising a fixed number of articles every day, our focus is on keeping coverage active, timely, and worth checking back for.
Submissions & Creators
Can I suggest a mod or story for MNC to cover?
Of course. We're always interested in hearing about projects we might have missed.
Maybe you've discovered a great mod for your favorite game, stumbled across a promising project that's still in development, or noticed an update you think more people should know about.
Send us the project's name, the game it's for, and a link to its official page. If there's something particularly interesting about it, we'd like to hear that, too.
Recommendations from readers help us discover projects that might otherwise slip past us.
Can I have my mod or project featured on MNC?
Absolutely. We'd welcome the opportunity to learn more about what you're creating.
Whether you're working on a massive total conversion, a new gameplay feature, a small quality-of-life improvement, or something entirely different, we're interested in hearing about it.
Our goal is to help modders get their projects in front of more people. You put the time and effort into creating these things, and we want to help spread the word, introduce your work to new players, and give it the attention it deserves.
MNC doesn't host or distribute mod files. That's the role of platforms like Nexus Mods, ModDB, CurseForge, and other mod-hosting services. We're here to cover your work, tell people about it, and direct interested readers back to your original project page.
If you'd like to be featured, send us your project's name, the game it's for, a link to its official page, and a little information about what you've been working on.
Does submitting a mod guarantee coverage?
We'd love to cover everything that comes our way, but we can't guarantee every submission will become a published story.
Our goal is to give as many creators as possible an opportunity to be seen, regardless of how large their projects are or how many downloads they've received.
As long as there's enough reliable information available to put together an accurate story, we're interested in taking a look.
Is Modding News Central a competitor to Nexus Mods, ModDB, or other modding platforms?
Absolutely not. Quite the opposite, actually.
We consider platforms like Nexus Mods, ModDB, CurseForge, and others to be essential parts of the modding community. They've spent years giving creators places to share their work and players places to discover, download, and enjoy it. We're not interested in competing with that.
We're here to help amplify what they're already doing.
MNC is a news and discovery publication, not a mod-hosting service. We don't host mod files, manage downloads, or try to replace the platforms creators already use.
Instead, we cover the projects being shared across those communities, introduce them to new audiences, and direct readers back to their original sources.
We see ourselves as an ally to modders, hosting platforms, and the wider gaming community. If our coverage helps someone discover a great mod, find a new creator to follow, or visit a project they might otherwise have missed, then we're doing exactly what we set out to do.
The more people discovering and supporting modders, the better it is for everyone.
How do you credit mod creators and image sources?
Giving creators proper credit is important to us.
Our stories link to their original sources, and we identify the people or teams responsible for the projects we cover whenever that information is available and relevant.
We also attribute images to their sources and aim to use authentic project media that accurately represents what's being discussed.
If we've missed a credit or attributed something incorrectly, please let us know so we can review it.
I'm a mod creator. Can I request an update to your coverage?
Of course.
If we've covered your project and something has changed, or there's information you believe needs clarification, we'd like to know.
That could mean a new release, revised features, updated compatibility requirements, a change in availability, or an attribution that needs correcting.
Send us the article link, the relevant details, and any supporting information. We'll review the request and update our coverage when warranted.
Editorial Standards & Transparency
How does MNC find and verify its stories?
We follow developments across modding platforms, creator pages, official project websites, community announcements, and other sources where modders share their work.
Before publishing, we work to establish what a project actually does, what's changed, and whether the available information supports the story we're telling.
We prefer information from the creators themselves whenever possible, particularly when it comes to features, requirements, release details, and important limitations.
We also distinguish between what a creator reports and what has been independently demonstrated. We don't want to tell you a mod does something spectacular if the evidence doesn't support it.
Does MNC personally test every mod it covers?
No, and we think it's important to be clear about that.
Our coverage is primarily news reporting, not hands-on reviewing. We rely on available project documentation, creator announcements, and supporting sources to explain what a mod offers.
When we haven't personally tested something, we won't pretend otherwise.
A news story about a mod shouldn't be mistaken for a guarantee that it will work perfectly with your particular game version, hardware, or mod setup.
Are the mods featured on MNC safe to install?
Coverage on MNC shouldn't be treated as a security or compatibility guarantee.
While we make an effort to report meaningful warnings and limitations when they're available, we don't independently inspect every mod file or test every installation.
We encourage readers to download mods from their original, trusted sources, review the creator's instructions, check compatibility with their game version, and pay attention to any reported issues.
For larger modifications or experimental releases, backing up your saves before installing is always a sensible precaution.
Do you cover mods that are no longer available to download?
Yes, when there's a worthwhile story to tell.
Some projects have disappeared from their original hosting platforms, while others are no longer maintained or have become difficult to find. That doesn't erase their place in modding history.
We may revisit these projects to document what they accomplished, the communities around them, or the influence they had on later mods.
However, historical coverage doesn't mean we host archived copies or direct readers toward unauthorized downloads.
What if a story contains an error or needs updating?
Let us know.
Modding projects change quickly. Features get revised, requirements change, releases are updated, and occasionally information turns out to be incomplete or incorrect.
If you spot something that needs attention, contact us with the article link, the information you believe should be corrected, and a supporting source if you have one.
We'll review it and make corrections when warranted. Accuracy matters more to us than pretending we never get anything wrong.
Can a creator request an image change or removal?
Yes.
If you're a creator or rights holder and believe an image has been used incorrectly, attributed improperly, or should be removed, please contact us with the relevant article and details.
We take those requests seriously and will review them individually.
Our intention is to showcase the work being done across the modding community, not create problems for the people making it possible.
How does Modding News Central approach advertising?
Advertising helps support Modding News Central and allows us to continue covering the games, mods, and creators our readers care about.
Our approach is pretty simple: we want advertising to feel like a natural part of the site, not something that gets in the way of enjoying it. We aim to keep ads minimal, thoughtfully placed, and relevant to our audience, with a preference for gaming-related products, services, and experiences whenever possible.
Of course, we don't always have complete control over which advertisements appear, particularly when they're served through third-party advertising networks. But wherever we do have that control, our goal is to keep things tasteful, avoid excessive placements, and make sure advertising doesn't overwhelm the content people came here to read.
We also believe advertising and editorial coverage should remain separate. A commercial relationship shouldn't determine whether a project receives favorable coverage.
At the end of the day, we'd rather have a site people genuinely enjoy visiting than one that tries to squeeze an advertisement into every available space.
Can someone pay to have their mod featured?
Our regular editorial coverage isn't something creators purchase.
We choose stories based on their relevance to the modding community, the information available, and what we believe readers would find worthwhile.
If we offer paid promotional opportunities, those placements will be identified as advertising or sponsored content rather than presented as independent editorial coverage.
Paying for promotion doesn't guarantee favorable editorial treatment.
Is MNC affiliated with the games, developers, or modding platforms it covers?
Unless we specifically state otherwise, no.
Modding News Central is an independent publication. Coverage of a game, developer, publisher, modding platform, or community project doesn't imply an official partnership, endorsement, or affiliation.
Games, trademarks, project names, and related materials remain the property of their respective owners.
