Welcome to Elderfield has taken an important step toward letting its players shape the game themselves. The latest update introduces official mod support, complete with a dedicated menu for managing community creations and documentation to help people start making their own.
For Windows players on Steam, mods placed in the game's Mods folder can now appear in the options menu, where supported settings can be configured. The developers have included an example mod and authoring documentation, along with new community discussion spaces for sharing ideas and projects. It's a practical starting point for a modding scene that previously lacked those official tools.
The update isn't exclusively about modding, either. The game's leveling system has been reworked into Professions, with more than 130 unlockable perks and new Combat and Cooking professions joining the mix. That's a significant change to progression in its own right.
What we'd be interested to see now is where the new creator support leads. An example mod and a documented way into the game's systems give curious players somewhere to begin, whether they're interested in making small adjustments or eventually building something more substantial.
