Lothlórien and Gundabad are finally joining the playable factions in The Dawnless Days, giving Total War: ATTILA players two very different corners of Middle-earth to command.

For Tolkien fans, those are appealing additions. Lothlórien brings the realm of the Galadhrim into the player's hands, while Gundabad offers the opportunity to lead forces from one of Middle-earth's most notorious Orc strongholds. And considering how much of Total War revolves around choosing a faction and shaping its fortunes, having those two options available opens up some intriguing campaign possibilities.

The latest beta also introduces the Ents and Orcs of the Grey Mountains as non-playable factions, expanding the world beyond the new playable additions. Dale receives a Kingship system, faction liberation becomes available, and the developers have reworked technology, economic systems, and AI behavior. New units, maps, and events round out an update that reaches considerably further than the faction selection screen.

There are some limitations to keep in mind. Multiplayer doesn't include every feature available in single-player, with certain Gundabad events disabled and achievements displayed without being awarded.

The Dawnless Days has spent years bringing Tolkien's world into Total War, and adding Lothlórien and Gundabad gives players another reason to return. Whether you're more interested in defending the Golden Wood or commanding the forces of Gundabad, there's a new campaign waiting to be fought.
