Portal: Alive & Kicking's update removes the separate Portal 2 installation requirement

Aperture Science has opened its doors to an old experiment in a new form. Portal: Alive & Kicking has reached Steam as a free Portal 2 mod, rebuilding and reimagining the original Portal campaign with the sequel's visual language while keeping Chell, GLaDOS, and those familiar test chambers at its heart.

The team has also discussed revised Escape maps and a soundtrack release after launch. Portal 2 needs to be installed in the same Steam library, and the creators warn that files placed directly into the base game's folder can cause problems. This is a playable release, not another remake still waiting for its debut.
