OpenConquest's attempt to rebuild the PC version of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest has reached an awkward but important stage: getting gameplay running is one thing; making all its systems behave like the original is another. The team has dropped its year-end release target while revisiting AI, navigation, combat and campaign behavior.

The long-term promise is a maintainable foundation for repairs and extensions that the original executable makes difficult. For now, the developers are prioritizing fidelity over a quick playable release, even where individual systems already appear functional. There is no replacement date, and the latest update is a development report rather than a download announcement.
