Twenty-two years later, and people are still talking about ESPN NFL 2K5.
And why shouldn't they? For those of us who remember the glory days of the 2K football series, there was something incredibly special about them, 2K5 in particular. The ESPN presentation, the atmosphere, the way it played, the attention to the little details that made Sunday afternoons feel like Sunday afternoons. It was a hell of a football game in 2004, and its reputation as well as its gameplay has aged remarkably well.
There's an experimental project called 2K5Remade, from BeyondTomrrow, working to bring the original Xbox version to Windows through a native runtime. Modern display options, controller remapping, mod packs, custom textures, and optional broadcast presentations are all part of the package. The creator also describes "75 historic teams available in exhibition-style modes," which ought to keep all of you football historians occupied for a while.
It's still early work, with acknowledged audio problems, graphical quirks, and the possibility of crashes disclosed. You'll also need your own legally obtained Xbox game files, too. But for anyone who's been holding onto ESPN NFL 2K5 memories for the last two decades, seeing this game find a new home on PC is something worth getting excited about, even in 2026.
