Sunless Sea gets a batty little navigation assistant

Navigating the Unterzee is already an unnerving experience, what with the darkness, the strange inhabitants, and the distinct possibility of something enormous deciding your ship looks edible. Nianeyna's Philanthropic Phyllonycteris offers a surprisingly charming solution to one of the less supernatural challenges: remembering where you're going. Players can place a series of markers anywhere on the chart, even in unexplored waters, and a small glowing bat will fly near the ship to point toward the next destination. It's rather adorable, assuming you haven't developed a healthy distrust of everything with wings.
The bat isn't an autopilot, so steering your vessel remains entirely your responsibility. Once you reach a marker, the route advances automatically, while your planned journey persists between sessions and can even be inherited by the next captain navigating the same zee. New worlds begin with fresh charts. It's a small quality-of-life addition, but one that feels unusually well suited to Sunless Sea's peculiar atmosphere. Sometimes all you really need in the endless darkness is a little bat showing you where to go.
