Only in Macross could somebody propose winning a space battle by singing at the enemy, and somehow make it sound perfectly reasonable. Astralith2004's latest development diary for Macross: Sins of the Protoculture, an ambitious total conversion for Sins of a Solar Empire II, offers a look at the Minmay Attack. Designed for the SDF-1 and SDF-2, the ability uses music to strengthen friendly ships while slowing opposing forces. Better yet, its current design includes a recurring chance to convert enemy vessels to your side. Imagine preparing your fleet for a desperate engagement, only to discover that your opponent's music collection is a military vulnerability.

Astralith2004 is refreshingly clear that the ability isn't balanced yet. A higher-level unlock, longer cooldown, and integration with the U.N. Spacy culture system are still being worked out. The diary also showcases additional spacecraft and revised effects, although ship balancing remains unfinished. Most importantly, this is a development preview, not a playable release. No public download has been verified yet. Still, for anyone who has ever wanted to bring Macross's particular brand of space opera into a grand strategy game, it's a fascinating project to keep on the radar.
