Helldivers 2's Anti-Cheat Switch Leaves Cosmetic Mods on Uncertain Ground

For Helldivers 2 players who've spent time customizing their armor and equipment, the game's recent anti-cheat transition brings an uncomfortable question: will those cosmetic mods still work, and is it safe to keep using them?
Arrowhead switched Helldivers 2 to Easy Anti-Cheat on October 20, warning that existing mods may need updates from their creators. That includes cosmetic modifications. Even if something only changes how your Helldiver looks, the studio isn't guaranteeing compatibility or safety under the new system.
The transition has also brought reports of crashes, with Arrowhead working on a more comprehensive fix. Its support guidance points out that uninstalling a mod doesn't necessarily remove everything it installed. Leftover files from tools such as ReShade and OptiScaler can remain behind, although that doesn't mean mods are responsible for every crash players encounter.
Steam Deck and Linux compatibility and hardware requirements remain unchanged, according to Arrowhead. For PC players with heavily customized installations, though, it's worth checking with individual mod creators before jumping back into the fight. Nobody wants to spend their evening troubleshooting anti-cheat problems when there's managed democracy to spread.
