Los Santos is already packed with things to do, but tearing through its streets and around its buildings at high speed takes on a very different meaning when you're piloting a tiny racing drone instead of a stolen sports car.
GTA V Enhanced FPV, from Wozman 420 (bwcon), has entered its first public beta, bringing first-person drone flying to Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced's single-player mode. The project uses Betaflight flight simulation, with adjustable controls and several camera perspectives, including a first-person goggles view that puts you right in the middle of the action.
Racing is a major part of the appeal. Players can create checkpoint courses, share them with others, and compete against their own best times using ghost laps. Both circuit races and point-to-point routes are supported, opening the door for everything from carefully planned courses to flights through some of Los Santos' more challenging surroundings. USB radio controllers are supported alongside traditional gamepads and keyboard controls, according to the creator.
This is an early beta, so there are limitations. Collisions still need refinement, and Rockstar Editor can't currently capture the mod's FPV camera. The creator also openly credits AI-assisted code and a generated quadcopter model as part of the project's development.
For players who enjoy mastering a difficult set of controls and shaving seconds off a good run, Los Santos suddenly has a whole new kind of racing scene to explore. And given how much of the city was built to be viewed from the streets, seeing it from a racing drone's perspective should be quite a change.
