FATE: Reawakened's Co-op Mod Now Lets You Bring Fallen Friends Back Into the Fight

One of the best things about dungeon crawling with friends is having somebody there to save your ass when things go horribly wrong (and something will go horribly wrong at some point). If you've ever played FATE, then you know exactly how quickly a perfectly manageable dungeon expedition can turn into a desperate scramble just to stay alive. Now imagine bringing three friends along for the adventure, only to watch one of them get completely flattened by a monster while the rest of you are still swinging away.

Well, now you can do something about it.

The fan-made FATE Co-op project has been gradually turning FATE: Reawakened into a lovely shared dungeon-crawling experience, complete with multiplayer combat, loot, and even pets tagging along for the ride. Its latest addition is a revival mechanic that gives surviving teammates fifteen seconds to rescue a fallen companion before they're gone for good.

We particularly like what this brings to the party dynamic. Suddenly, keeping your friends alive becomes everybody's responsibility. Do you risk rushing over to revive somebody while enemies are still attacking, or finish the fight and hope you make it in time? Fifteen seconds isn't exactly a ton of time when half the dungeon seems determined to murder you.

There are limits, of course. Fittingly, hardcore characters don't get a second chance, and if the entire party goes down, there's nobody left to play hero. The project is also still in open alpha, so there's work ahead before this one becomes a fully polished multiplayer experience.

But being able to explore FATE's dungeons together, get into trouble together, and occasionally drag each other back from the brink of death? That's the kind of co-op chaos we love to see.
