Tuin Doom Enhanced Lets You Blow Apart Doom's Levels, and We're Here for It

Fire a rocket into a wall and watch it crumble. There's something wonderfully satisfying about doing that. Of course, in the original Doom, that wall wasn't going anywhere, no matter howe many rockets you lobbed at it. With Tuin Doom Enhanced, suddenly, the scenery isn't quite so indestructible anymore.
Created by tuin-boop and building on Robert Heidenreich's Duct-Tape DOOM, this custom engine makes Doom's environments destructible. Rockets and exploding barrels can carve literal chunks out of walls and floors, while smaller impacts can chip away at surfaces and kick up debris. The clever part is that the engine uses the same solid geometry for rendering, movement, and destruction, so you're actually changing the environment rather than just watching a fancy explosion effect.
An experimental release arrived on October 20, followed by three more updates on October 21 that included improvements to door performance and fracture effects. You'll need your own Doom IWAD to play this one, and there is an amusingly chaotic catch to all of this: blowing holes through the environment can actually let you bypass parts of a level that were never meant to be skipped. Whether that's a problem or half the fun probably depends on how much you enjoy breaking things.
At this point, we think it's safe to say that Doom has been modded in just about every direction imaginable, but being able to physically tear apart its levels is still a pretty wild and kick-ass idea. We're curious to see how far this one goes.
