MOD SPOTLIGHT
The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is practically another Gothic game hiding inside a mod

Gothic II never really cared much about making you feel special. You weren't some legendary hero arriving to save the world with a magical sword and a pre-ordained destiny everybody had apparently been waiting for. You were just another poor bastard trying to survive in a place full of people who had their own problems and, quite frankly, very little interest in yours.
For a lot of us, that was exactly what made Gothic so good.
The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos takes that same unforgiving spirit and builds an entirely new adventure around it. Created by The Chronicles of Myrtana Team, this free total conversion for Gothic II: Gold Edition follows Marvin, a refugee arriving on the island of Archolos before the events of the original game. There's a brand new story, a new world to explore, and a whole lot of people whose trust, respect, or outright hostility you'll have to earn along the way.
The team describes more than 170 quests, branching decisions, expanded crafting and economy systems, and over sixty hours of expected gameplay. Towns, farms, vineyards, mines, and wilderness areas fill out an island that genuinely feels like it belongs in the Gothic universe rather than simply borrowing its name. English subtitles and interface text are also available, although the official release does not include full English voice acting.
For longtime Gothic fans, this is the sort of project that can make you easily forget that you're playing a mod. It brings back that wonderful feeling of starting with practically nothing, learning how the world works, and then slowly carving out a place for yourself.
And if you happen to get beaten to a pulp by the first group of troublemakers you encounter, well... welcome back to Gothic! 😂
