BeamNG.drive Undercover Wheelman Turns Free Roam Into a 1970s Police Chase

BeamNG.drive now has a free-roam pursuit overhaul openly inspired by the original DRIVER. Undercover Wheelman swaps traffic toward 1970s cars, adds patrolling police and tracks six felony levels, with offenses only counting when an officer actually sees them. The custom HUD adds damage and felony bars, a heading-up radar with police vision cones, and a period-style strip speedometer.
The clever part is that the creator also built performance modes for the chase traffic. A simplified mode cuts vehicle complexity dramatically while trying to retain stock appearance, sound, lighting and broadly similar performance, which matters once a pursuit fills the road with police and civilian cars. The first release is focused on free roam, and the creator still lists damaged simplified traffic spawning as a known fault.
UPDATE | OCTOBER 13, 2026
The creator’s September 29 version 1.1 hotfix corrected the simplified police interceptor spawning with damage, which had caused the traffic AI to treat it as crashed. The early-release caveat in our original coverage refers to a problem addressed by that update.
